Is it too early to talk about Christmas? Maybe, but I am going for it anyway.
As the Christmas season approaches us at full speed (now Halloween has past, it’s full speed ahead), it's easy to get swept up in the hustle and bustle — endless shopping lists, packed calendars, and that constant feeling of rushing from one thing to the next. But what if this year, we did things differently? What if we embraced a slow and simple Christmas, focused more on presence than presents, and less on the overwhelm and more on the quiet magic of the season? It’s possible, and it might just be the shift you need to truly take pleasure in the entire Christmas season.
A slower, simpler Christmas doesn’t mean missing out on the joy and fun — it actually means intentionally choosing what matters most to you and letting go of the stress that usually comes along for the ride. Whether it’s baking cookies with the family, spending an evening in cosy pyjamas watching your favourite Netflix Christmas movies, or opting for meaningful, handmade gifts instead of running yourself ragged at getting gifts, a slow Christmas is about making space for what fills you up. The best part? It brings back the wonder and warmth that sometimes gets lost in the chaos.
This year, let’s lean into less hustle. Let’s create memories we’ll actually want to remember — not just photos for the ‘gram. Whether it’s simplifying traditions, cutting down on the gift-giving madness, or carving out more time to just be with loved ones, embracing a slow and simple Christmas could be the most refreshing gift you give yourself. So, are you ready to make this Christmas season one that actually feels good? Let’s get started! 🎄
For most of us we love Christmas and all it’s magic, but sometimes it feels a little too much. I feel like when you make a conscious decision to step away from overwhelm and embrace a more unhurried pace Christmas and all it’s busy-ness can feel like the opposite of all that. But all it really is is finding a rhythm and a flow that makes it feel right for us.
And I think for many of us it doesn’t necessarily feel like the overwhelm fits in with our ordinary slow lives. It's me, I am the one I am talking about.
Now don't get me wrong, I love Christmas but it is a lot, and for many years I sacrificed myself and pushed myself to create Christmas, but the funny thing is, was that I didn't even know I was doing it. It was just the norm and just what happened this time of year, right?
Wrong.
Contrary to popular belief, Christmas doesn't have to be any more stressful or overwhelming than the rest of the year, in fact, Christmas can be exactly what you want it to be. And it can definitely be the slow and simple Christmas season that you desire.
Christmas can be full of consumerism, which is designed to keep us busy and spending money. You don't have to do anything that you don't feels serves you or your family. Not the gift giving, not the Christmas events, not having to provide the perfect, magical Christmas experience for your children. You can chose how you celebrate and can opt out of anything that doesn't serve you.
So how can we start?
We’ve all felt the pressure to have the “perfect” Christmas — the endless gift buying, the overbooked holiday parties, and the stress of keeping up with everyone’s expectations. But when we take a step back and think about it, does any of that hustle actually leave us feeling joyful? Often, we end up exhausted, overwhelmed, and missing the true spirit of the season. Choosing to step away from the normal hustle isn’t about missing out, but about creating space for what really matters: connection, peace, and the simple moments that fill our hearts.
A simple Christmas allows us to be more present and intentional. When we let go of the constant rush and pare down our Christmas commitments, we open up time to truly enjoy the season with our loved ones. Instead of feeling the pressure to buy the most gifts or throw the biggest party, we can focus on thoughtful traditions that bring joy—whether it’s cosying up by the fire at the local pub, baking cookies with the kids, or taking quiet evening walks to admire the twinkling lights. Simplicity brings a slower pace, one that lets us soak in the magic and wonder we often miss when we’re rushing around.
Ultimately, a simpler Christmas is about aligning the season with what we truly desire: meaning, joy, and peace. It’s an invitation to rewrite the holiday experience in a way that serves you, not the other way around. By saying “no” to the chaos and “yes” to intentional moments, we can create the Christmas we’ve always dreamed of — one that isn’t defined by excess but by the warmth of being with the people we love and cherishing the things that make the season truly special.
